Giraffe, ErdmÃ¤nnchen & Co

During our last shooting at the Zoo of Frankfurt, we were filmed by the team of the show called "Giraffe, Erdmännchen & Co". It is a reality show showing what the days are made of at the Zoos of Frankfurt and Kronberg.

The episode 103 will so show our shooting at the Zoo, and will be aired on ARD (Das Erste) the 19th of June at 4:10 PM.

The synopsis of the channel :

"An unusual task is awaiting the animals and the keepers at the Grzimek house at the Zoo of Frankfurt. A famous animal photographer has arrived and wants to realize "Star photos" of some of the adorable quadrupeds.
All that in a totally white setting - what seems to make the animals more motivated to run around than to stay still."

Brand new search engine

Lifeonwhite has now a brand new search engine !

It is now multilingual, you can now search in french and shortly in spanish, other languages are planned.

It has been made to be as specific as possible, you can now even ask in a phrase what you wish to find ! Example : Chimpanzee holding a gun

Suggestions now appear when you are typing words.

The filters have been enhanced, and a filter to search for 50Mb files and larger has been added.

And finally if you are searching a picture by it's reference, it is detected, you don't have to use a filter.

If you have suggestions or if you encounter a bug, do not hesitate to write us.

New Making-of

The Making-of of our latest shooting is now available. This was the shooting with a young red fox, a lynx, an owlet, a marmot and a foal, all pictures can be viewed here.

Chimpanzees, Baboons and various others

New photos of chimpanzees, macaques ,baboons, an armadillo, a lesser Hedgehog Tenrec from Madagascar, a very rare species and a Mangalista are available on our website. You can also see "the Making of".

The photos of the hedgehog, armadillo and tamandua were taken in the Frankfurt Zoo, and the other animals at various breeders in the center of Germany.

The mangalistas particularly fascinated us. We have therefore contacted a British farmer and breeder of Mangalistas to take more photos of this species .

Pictures of a Lynx, owlet and fox cub

Eric and JP came back with new photos of a lynx, and owlet and a fox cub. The photo session was made possible thanks to the contribution of Marie Noëlle Baroni, who is a professional animal trainer for the film industry. The lynx which was photographed, was one of the main actors in the movie « The fox and the child ».

A brand new Making-of is now available on Life on white, it was our last trip where we had photo shootings of an Armadillo, an Anteater, a Lesser Hedgehog, Baboons and Chimps !

Welcome to our new intern

Monday May 4th 2009, Life on White welcomes Vanessa Blanc, a student in Applied Languages at the Blaise-Pascal University in Clermont-Ferrand (France) who is on a two month internship as part of her studies. During her time here, Vanessa will be in charge of communication, aiming to promote and improve our website as well as the distribution of our images in specialized magazines and she will also translate the website into Spanish.

We wish her good luck !

As a reminder, the birds photographed during that session are : Green winged Macaw, Canada Goose, Mixed-breed Canada and Bernacle Goose, Galah Cockatoo (also Rose-breasted Cockatoo), Long-billed Corella, Southern Ground Hornbill, Ciconia, Grey crowned crane, Scarlet Ibis, White Pelican, Dalmatian Pelican, Chestnut-mandibled (also Swainson's Toucan).

The team came back today with photos of many different bird species :

The pictures were taken at the Parc des oiseaux Villars les Dombes, where we had the chance to work with a very pleasent team.

The first photos will be available on Life on White in two weeks, since next week we will be away in Marrakesh for some research, we are hoping to find some Snake Charmers for taking pictures of theirs snakes in front of a white background.

First Hippo and Rhino pictures available

The first pictures of the Hippopotamus and the White Rhinoceros are now available on Life on White !
Each week we will be adding new images of both of them, as we have in total around 100 pictures of each animal.

You can find three pictures of the Hippopotamus and two of the Rhinoceros.

As always there is a Making of for the photo sessions. You will see the difficulties that we encountered, such as the quality of the ground, the surface available, and simply the size and the weight of the animals which makes it harder to control them. Watch the making of here.

Trip to China

The team is leaving today for China, for some photo sessions with Panda's in Chengdu.

Back from Frankfurt

As previously announced, we were at the Frankfurt zoo yesterday for a photo session with a baby Sloth. The only reason we were able to photograph this little animal is because it was handraised.

The photo shoot was rather difficult because the little sloth, aged 3 and half months wanted to grab hold of everything and everyone that approached him except the branch that we wanted him to be on! There was also not much space available to properly set up our studio.

However, we really enjoyed this session thanks to a very warm welcom from Jessica and Kai, the two lovely and helpful keepers and obviously thanks to this cute little furry animal that would not let go of his teddy bear!

During the 400 kilometer trip back to our studio we already started to work on some of the pictures and our Making of which should be online in the following days.

Two-toed sloth photo session

After a week of organisation, we are finally going tomorrow to the Zoo of Frankfurt (Germany) for having a photo session with a young two-toed sloth !

The first picture may be available in the news after-tomorrow and the rest in the following 15 days.

New website launched

The Life on White team are happy to introduce the new version of their website.

We have especially improved the Lightbox management, so that the content of your lightbox can be visible at all times, on all the pages of the website, and is updated with each new action without having to refresh the whole page.

The whole of the code has been revised to improve the speed of display both in your galleries and when searching.

The search engine also has some new functionalities which we are still working on.

We have also added a system whereby comments for each image can be introduced, so that anyone can leave a remark for any particular image.

A new presentation for the "Making of", the "uses and references" and especially the "sources" has been elaborated, so as to ensure a better visibility by displaying banners on each individual page.

There is also a "news" engine, which brings you the latest information on our work in progress. You are also free to leave comments or remarks on any news which might be of interest to you. You may also sign up to our news via our RSS feed.
